Types of Braces

In today’s world of orthodontics you have choices about the type of braces you want to wear. Depending on your treatment plan, you may be able to choose from low-friction metal braces, low-friction clear/invisible braces, Invisalign® or iBraces®. Kids can even choose colors to go with any type of low-friction braces. So which braces are right for you?

Low-Friction / Self-Ligating Braces – Metal, and Clear / Invisible

Through his experience as an associate professor of Orthodontics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC), Dr. Minick has had the opportunity to use most orthodontic braces systems. At Minick Orthodontics, we have chosen to use In-Ovation® self-ligating braces for several reasons:

1. In-Ovation self-ligating braces reduce the time spent in your Orthodontist’s
    chair by more
than one-third.
2. Those who choose In-Ovation® self-ligating braces finish equivalent
treatment cases approximately 4 months sooner than traditional braces.
3. In-Ovation® averages 40% fewer appointments than traditional braces with ties.
4. In-Ovation® braces are lower profile than other self-ligating braces,
meaning there is less irritation from the braces and your teeth are
    easier to clean.
5. Patients experience overall greater comfort.

The In-Ovation® system is similar to and offers all the benefits of the Damon® system, while providing more options and flexibility and more control over your treatment results. In-Ovation self-ligating braces come in both metal and clear/invisible. So be sure to talk with Dr. Minick about which one is right for you.

Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen®
_________________________________________________________________________

As the Invisalign instructor in the Department of Orthodontics at UCHSC, Dr. Minick is proud to offer Invisalign at his practice. Invisalign is a great option for certain orthodontic cases - especially for those who prefer an invisible, removable braces alternative. Invisalign is also now available for teens with Invisalign Teen. Invisalign consists of a series of clear, custom made, removable aligners created to effectively move teeth into their desired position. Patients receive custom-made aligners that should be worn at all times except for eating, brushing and flossing. Each aligner is worn for two to three weeks. Patients should visit Dr. Minick every four to six weeks to receive the next set of aligners and to ensure that teeth are tracking with the treatment plan.

Advantages of Invisalign include:

  • Aligners are virtually invisible
• More comfortable than traditional braces
• Removable
• No food restrictions
• Allows patients to brush and floss
  normally
• Patients can visualize end results through    a 3D animation of their treatment process
